Review
Folks, gather around and let me tell you a tale about the recent flick known as “PCUâ€. This movie is one that can’t be missed by anyone who has had the privilege of experiencing the life of American college students. “PCU†is a film that will make you laugh, cry, and shout hallelujah to every character, especially if they’re wearing a superhero costume.
Nowadays, it seems as though colleges are becoming more politically correct and uptight. However, this movie takes us back to a simpler time when we could all let our hair down and have some fun. The movie is set in the Port Chester University where a group of outsiders finds themselves at odds with the overbearing administration.
The story follows Tom Lawrence played by Chris Young, who is an aspiring writer, and his new friend Droz played by Jeremy Piven. Together they form a group of misfits who defy convention and challenge the status quo on their campus. They rally against political correctness and become legends in their own right.
“PCU†is not just another college movie; it’s a slapstick comedy with some real life lessons mixed in. The film covers topics such as tolerance, acceptance, free speech, activism, diversity without being preachy or taking itself too seriously.
The star-studded cast includes David Spade playing the unforgettable role of “Dink†alongside Jon Favreau who plays “Gutter†– an iconic representation for all freshman struggling to fit in. Megan Ward also stars as Katy who shines as Tom’s love interest despite having political differences
One character who stood out to me was James Cromwell’s portrayal of President Garcia-Thompson – the antagonist throughout most of the film. He brings forth his humoristic side brilliantly whilst representing a serious issue representative of many university administrations at present day.
The dialogue was witty and cleverly written with sarcasm thrown in for good measure; each punchline hits the mark and punctuates every scene perfectly. The soundtrack was an eclectic mix of grunge, funk, and rock which created the perfect atmosphere for every moment in the film.
The movie showcases some of the most hilarious scenes you would never imagine seeing on any university campus, such as an epic party with a live band and mosh pit. Not to mention when Droz’s crew deploys a bunch of pigs onto their rival house’s lawn to sabotage their pledge initiation.
“PCU†deserves all the accolades it has received since its release which include MTV Movie Award nominations for Best On-Screen Duo, Best Comedic Performance, and Best Movie Song. Unfortunately despite this almost cult status movie fans will be disappointed to know that it did not fare well at the box office.
From start to finish “PCU†is a must-see flick. It embodies everything we love about college life – freedom of speech, shenanigans, solidarity, friendship and fighting against the establishment; themes relevant even today. So gather your crew, grab some popcorn sit back and enjoy this comedic journey through Port Chester University; you won’t regret it!
