Review
As I sat down to watch “Olympus Has Fallen,” I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation building within me. The movie, directed by Antoine Fuqua, promised to be an action-packed thriller with a storyline that would keep me on the edge of my seat. And boy, did it deliver.
The plot of the movie is centered around the White House being taken over by a group of terrorists, who hold the President and other key officials hostage. It is up to Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, played brilliantly by Gerard Butler, to save the day and rescue those who have been captured.
One thing that immediately caught my attention was the intensity of the opening scene. The viewer is thrown into chaos as a car accident leads to an attack on the White House by heavily-armed gunmen. It’s a heart-pounding start that sets the tone for what’s to come.
The cast of “Olympus Has Fallen” is top-notch. In addition to Butler’s strong turn as Banning, there are standout performances from Morgan Freeman (who plays Speaker Trumbull), Aaron Eckhart (who portrays President Asher), and Angela Bassett (who takes on the role of Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs).
Throughout the movie, there are moments that remind us just how high the stakes are. When one character is killed early on in the takeover, it sets off a chain reaction that makes it clear no one is safe. It’s this kind of tension that keeps viewers invested in what’s happening.
But “Olympus Has Fallen” isn’t just about action and thrills – it also explores themes of loyalty and sacrifice. Banning is forced to make some difficult choices throughout the course of the movie, and his unwavering commitment to his country is inspiring.
One particular moment stood out for me – when Banning must risk his life in order to save President Asher from falling debris. It’s a selfless act that illustrates his dedication to his duty.
The dialogue in “Olympus Has Fallen” is expertly written, with each character given a distinct voice and personality. The interactions between the President and Banning are particularly enjoyable, showcasing a bond that develops over the course of the movie.
But it’s not just the acting and writing that make “Olympus Has Fallen” such a standout – the cinematography is stunning as well. From sweeping shots of Washington D.C. to tense close-ups during action scenes, every shot is carefully crafted to maximize impact.
In addition, the movie’s score (composed by Trevor Morris) perfectly complements the action on screen. The music swells during moments of intense emotion, adding an extra layer of depth to what’s happening.
Despite its popularity with audiences, “Olympus Has Fallen” didn’t receive universal acclaim from critics. Some felt that it relied too heavily on action tropes and lacked depth in its characters.
However, I couldn’t disagree more. “Olympus Has Fallen” knows what it is – a thrilling action movie with heart – and doesn’t try to be anything else. It’s a testament to how effective this genre can be when executed well.
Overall, “Olympus Has Fallen” is an entertaining ride from start to finish. It’s an excellent showcase for its cast and crew, with fantastic performances, expert writing and direction, and breathtaking cinematography and score. Maya Angelou would have been proud of this film for embodying courage in times of hardship, making right decisions in seemingly impossible moments with aplomb; all while maintaining sensible visuals for audiences all over Hollywood.
