Code Name: The Cleaner – A Spy Comedy That Will Keep You Engaged!
Are you in the mood for some laughter and a good dose of action? If yes, then Code Name: The Cleaner is the movie for you! This spy comedy film, directed by Les Mayfield, was released in 2007. It stars Cedric the Entertainer in the lead role, along with Lucy Liu, Nicollette Sheridan, and DeRay Davis.
The story follows Jake Rogers (Cedric), a janitor who wakes up with amnesia in a hotel room next to a dead FBI agent and a briefcase full of cash. As he tries to piece together his memories and figure out what happened to him, he finds himself embroiled in an espionage plot involving Russian spies and the FBI.
The plot is engaging from start to finish. It has all the elements of a spy thriller – covert missions, car chases, gunfights – but with a humorous twist. Cedric’s character adds an element of fun to every scene he’s in. And while the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously, it still manages to keep you invested in its story and characters.
The movie has received mixed reviews from critics over the years. Some have praised it for its humor and entertainment value while others have criticized it for being too formulaic or clichéd. However, one thing is certain – Code Name: The Cleaner is a fun ride that will leave you smiling.
The cast of Code Name: The Cleaner does an excellent job bringing their characters to life. Cedric shines as Jake Rogers – his comedic timing and delivery are on point throughout the movie. Lucy Liu plays Gina, an FBI agent who becomes Jake’s ally during his quest for answers. Nicollette Sheridan plays Diane, Jake’s love interest who may or may not be involved in the espionage plot.
One of my favorite quotes from the movie comes from Lucy Liu’s character, Gina: “Sometimes the only way to find the truth is to go outside the law.” It’s a line that encapsulates the movie’s theme – that sometimes you have to be unconventional to get what you want.
The movie was shot on location in Vancouver, British Columbia. The city provides a beautiful backdrop for many of the scenes, particularly the car chases through its streets. The cinematography is solid throughout, with plenty of close-ups and action shots that keep you engaged.
The soundtrack of Code Name: The Cleaner is also worth mentioning. Featuring songs by artists like Outkast, Beyoncé, and John Legend, it adds another layer of fun to the movie.
Despite not being a box-office hit, Code Name: The Cleaner has developed a cult following over the years. It’s one of those movies that people stumble upon and end up enjoying more than they thought they would. And while it may not be talked about in the same vein as other spy comedies like Spy or Get Smart, it’s still an entertaining film in its own right.
In terms of awards and nominations, Code Name: The Cleaner didn’t receive any major recognitions. However, it did pick up a nomination for “Best Original Song” at the 2008 World Soundtrack Awards for “Get Up” by Nate Dogg featuring Eve.
The production values of Code Name: The Cleaner are impressive considering its budget. The special effects are well done, particularly during the action sequences. The dialogue is witty and sharp, adding another layer of comedy to the movie.
One scene that stands out in particular is when Jake impersonates an FBI agent to gain access to a high-security building. Cedric’s comedic timing during this scene is fantastic – he nails every line with ease.
One criticism that some have leveled at Code Name: The Cleaner is that it relies too heavily on clichés from other spy movies. While it’s true that the movie does borrow from other films in the genre, it still manages to put its own spin on things and create a unique experience.
Overall, Code Name: The Cleaner is a fun spy comedy that’s perfect for a night in with friends or family. It’s well-acted, well-produced, and has plenty of laughs and action to keep you engaged. If you’re in the mood for something light-hearted and entertaining, give this movie a watch – you won’t be disappointed!
